The Optimal Constant in Wente's L1 Estimate
نویسنده
چکیده
We explore some geometric aspects of compensation compactness associated to Jacobian determinants. We provide the optimal constant in Wente's inequality-the original motivation of this work-and go on to give various extensions to geometric situations. In fact we improve Wente's inequality somewhat, making it more appropriate for applications in which optimal results are required. This is demonstrated when we prove an optimal inequality for immersed surfaces of constant mean curvature in R 3 , contolling their diameter in terms of their area and curvature.

Inequalities for a New Data-based Method for Selecting Nonparametric Density Estimates
We continue the development of a method for the selection of a bandwidth or a number of design parameters in density estimation. We provide explicit non-asymptotic density-free inequalities that relate the L1 error of the selected estimate with that of the best possible estimate, and study in particular the connection between the richness of the class of density estimates and the performance bo...
متن کاملVariable Kernel Estimates: on the Impossibility of Tuning the Parameters
For the standard kernel density estimate, it is known that one can tune the bandwidth such that the expected L1 error is within a constant factor of the optimal L1 error (obtained when one is allowed to choose the bandwidth with knowledge of the density). In this paper, we pose the same problem for variable bandwidth kernel estimates where the bandwidths are allowed to depend upon the location....
متن کاملRelative Clause Ambiguity Resolution in L1 and L2: Are Processing Strategies Transferred?
This study aims at investigating whether Persian native speakers highly advanced in English as a second language (L2ers) can switch to optimal processing strategies in the languages they know and whether working memory capacity (WMC) plays a role in this respect. To this end, using a self-paced reading task, we examined the processing strategies 62 Persian speaking proficient L2ers used to read...
متن کاملTh1/Th2 Imbalance and Elevated PD-L1 in Pleural Effusion Predict the Risk of Multi-Drug Resistant Tuberculous Pleuritis
Background: Patient immune status might be indicative of the variance in bacterial genetics in drug-resistant tuberculous pleuritis and could be used for predicting the risk of multi-drug resistant tuberculous pleuritis (MDR-TB). Objective: To determine the significance of Th2/Th1 ratio and concentration of PD-L1 in the pleural effusions for prediction of MDR-T...
متن کاملThe Numerical Solution of Some Optimal Control Systems with Constant and Pantograph Delays via Bernstein Polynomials
In this paper, we present a numerical method based on Bernstein polynomials to solve optimal control systems with constant and pantograph delays. Constant or pantograph delays may appear in state-control or both. We derive delay operational matrix and pantograph operational matrix for Bernstein polynomials then, these are utilized to reduce the solution of optimal control with constant...
